The 55-run defeat left Bismillah Khan’s team in fifth place on the six-team table

Khyber Pakhtunkhwa rose to No. 2 on the six-team Pakistan National T20 Cup table, while Balochistan stayed at fifth, after Mohammad Rizwan’s side put in a dominant performance in their game in Rawalpindi on Saturday evening. The lower order did the job with the bat to take Khyber Pakhtunkhwa from what looked likely to be a good total, around 180, to a huge 202 for 5 after they were asked to bat. Asif Afridi and Arshad Iqbal then returned three-fors to script a 55-run win.It was Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s fourth win in five matches, and gave them eight points, leaving only Sindh ahead of them. As for Balochistan, there’s only the winless, and luckless, Southern Punjab below them.Rizwan, who scored a 34-ball 40, and Israrullah gave Khyber Pakhtunkhwa a decent but unspectacular start, getting to 43 midway into the sixth over before the latter was dismissed, and the scoring rate didn’t spike much as Rizwan and Sahibzada Farhan (43 in 31) added 37 for the second wicket. At the halfway stage, they were at 80.The real impetus came after that. Asif Afridi hit a four and two sixes in his four-ball 16 from No. 4, while Iftikhar Ahmed’s 36 came from 18 balls, Musadiq Ahmed hit an unbeaten 17 in nine balls, and Adil Amin hit 26 not out in 13 balls; 122 runs were added in the last ten overs. It would have been tough for any side to chase that down, and Balochistan have been in a bit of a hole anyway. On the day, they were 8 for 1 and then 16 for 2, with Shaheen Shah Afridi calling the shots, and the seventh wicket had fallen by the 14th over with the total just 83. By then, Asif and Arshad were in charge, and the game was as good as over.Balochistan batted through to the end, though, and that was mainly down to Sohail Akhtar, who scored an unbeaten 61 in 43 balls, with two fours and five sixes, to at least give Balochistan’s NRR a bit of a boost.

Barcelona now after £180k-a-week Chelsea star after Lavia and Chukwuemeka

Spanish giants Barcelona are now after another prestigious member of the Chelsea squad, after registering their interest in midfielders Romeo Lavia and Carney Chukwuemeka very recently.

Barcelona target Chelsea stars Lavia and Chukwuemeka

Earlier this week, reliable Blues journalist Simon Phillips shared news that the Catalans are considering a raid on Stamford Bridge as they weigh up new men for Hansi Flick’s engine room – given they’re pretty short in the midfield department right now.

It could finally end Chelsea’s search for a new no.9 but they will have to move fast.

Indeed, Flick’s side have issues in the middle of the park, leading them to consider both Lavia and Chukwuemeka as options.

While Barcelona are eyeing Lavia from Chelsea as a target, it is believed the club’s hierarchy and head coach Enzo Maresca in particular have adopted a firm ‘not for sale’ stance when it comes to the Belgian – as they theorize he’ll be a “vital” player in their long-term project.

It is a different case for Chukwuemeka, though. The 20-year-old, on a reported £100,000-per-week in west London, is up for grabs and there is a belief that Barcelona have been in contact with Chukwuemeka’s agents ahead of a potential move in January.

“The two names mentioned by our source is Lavia and Chukwuemeka, with Barcelona showing an interest in both players,” wrote Phillips via his Substack on Tuesday.

Carney Chukwuemeka

“There has also been agent contact, which we believe will be for Chukwuemeka as he is the player who is available in January. As for Lavia, we checked in with other club sources and they have said there is ‘absolutely ZERO chance’ Chelsea would even entertain an enquiry for the 20-year-old right now, and he is a huge part of the future of the club and someone who the club and Enzo Maresca see as vital for their plans and project going forward.

“Quite simply, they would tell Barcelona ‘not for sale at any price’ if an enquiry would come in. This will come as no surprise to anyone, thankfully. For Chukwuemeka though, Chelsea would be willing to hold talks over a sale.”

Barca are not the only elite European club after the former Aston Villa gem, with AC Milan also reaching out to Chukwuemeka’s representatives according to separate reports, so Flick may have some competition.

Barcelona eyeing move for Chelsea star Enzo Fernandez

Amid their fondness for Lavia and Chukwuemeka, Phillips also writes that the La Liga side are keen on £180,000-per-week mainstay midfielder Enzo Fernandez.

That is according to some of his sources, again via Substack, with Chelsea’s Fernandez attracting some interest from Barcelona ahead of 2025.

The Argentine World Cup winner signed for Chelsea in a deal worth £107 million last year, and despite a tough start, he is now beginning to impress under Maresca alongside fellow marquee midfielder Moises Caicedo.

This deal could be very unlikely to happen, considering Chelsea would want a good portion of the £107m they paid for Fernandez, and Barca’s well-documented financial problems suggest they wouldn’t even be able to get a move off the ground.

He is an ambitious target for Flick and their president Joan Laporta, with a deal for Chukwuemeka seeming far more realistic.

Essex have become the second county club after Yorkshire to set up an investigation into historic allegations of racism, with the appointment of Katharine Newton QC to oversee proceedings.Newton is described in a statement from the club as “an experienced and highly regarded practitioner who appears regularly in the employment tribunal, High Court and the appellate courts, including the Court of Appeal and the Supreme Court”.”Ms Newton has over 20 years’ practice in employment law and notably led the investigation into the allegations of race discrimination and bullying against the manager of the England Women football team in 2017,” the statement continues.”Essex Cricket reiterated that the club has a zero-tolerance policy towards racism and any form of discrimination. The appointment of such an eminent legal figure underscores the club’s determination that all allegations, regardless of when they took place, will be investigated thoroughly and independently.”The club’s move follows the recent resignation of chairman John Faragher, who was accused of using racist language during a board meeting – a charge he denies. Two former players have since spoken out about their treatment at Essex, with the Jamaica-born fast bowler Maurice Chambers telling the Cricketer that he was repeatedly abused by two players and a senior coach, and taunted with bananas.Zoheb Sharif, a former batter, told Sky News he had been nicknamed “the Bomber” after making his debut in the wake of the September 11 attacks in 2001, and told he would never be picked for the first XI.In a statement issued in response to Chambers’ allegation, Essex chief executive John Stephenson said he was “extremely disappointed to hear of further historic racial allegations” which made “distressing reading”. None of the individuals were still involved with the club, he added. In keeping with other clubs in the wake of Azeem Rafiq’s revelations, Essex has set up a reporting channel for anyone who wishes to talk about their experiences with the club.Anyone concerned can contact the club, anonymously if they wish, by emailing [email protected].

Exciting Wolves transfer update shared from Molineux ahead of January

An exciting Wolverhampton Wanderers transfer update has emerged ahead of the January transfer window. It has been a poor start to the Premier League season for Wolves and Gary O’Neil, as they are still winless in their opening 10 league games, and that form is, as expected, raising questions about the future of the manager.

£2m can land Wolves new manager who hasn't lost a league game for his club

Wolves may soon have a decision to make about Gary O’Neil’s future.

ByBrett Worthington Nov 6, 2024 Latest manager news at Wolves

The Old Gold have just three points to their name so far, with two of those coming in the last two games, as they played out 2–2 draws against Brighton and Crystal Palace. But that hasn’t eased the pressure on the Wolves boss, as it’s been claimed that O’Neil has been given two games to save his job. The first of those games was against Palace, and the second is Southampton, whom they face this weekend before the November international break.

It goes on to add that poor results in those games could “change the mood” at Molineux, even though O’Neil does retain the backing of the players. One manager who Wolves have been linked with recently is Aberdeen boss Jimmy Thelin, and the Premier League side have now learned that it will cost them £2 million to get him out of the Scottish side.

Thelin joined Aberdeen in the summer and, so far, has guided them to an unbeaten start in the league. His management in Scotland has put him on the radar of Wolves, but they won’t be the only ones monitoring his incredible progress. Away from talk about O’Neil’s future, there has now been an update on plans for the January transfer window.

Hobbs readying January business in key area

According to Molineux News, Wolves are looking to sign at least one central defender in January as they try to bolster their backline options. The Midlands side added eight new players to their squad over the course of the summer, but it has yet to impact results as they sit bottom of the table.

Wolves did bring in Bastien Meupiyou during the summer to add to the options of Toti, Santiago Bueno, Yerson Mosquera and Craig Dawson as centre-back options. But it appears that O’Neil is looking to strengthen that further after the devastating injury for the Colombian.

This report states that Matt Hobbs will add at least one central defender to the squad in the New Year, but there is also a possibility that another centre-back will join as well. It goes on to add that there is a possibility that Wolves look to explore loan deals from fellow Premier League clubs.

But that isn’t the only work that Hobbs is doing, as behind the scenes he is already looking at players in Brazil and Europe for “value” and “quality”. That is something Wolves have looked to do before, and it has worked out for them in the past.

Tim Paine quits as Australia Test captain after explicit messages to female co-worker emerge

The board accepted Paine’s resignation and has said that process of identifying and appointing a new Test captain will be accelerated

Tim Paine has quit as Test captain less than three weeks before the men’s Ashes after the emergence of an investigation four years ago by Cricket Australia for sending explicit messages to a female co-worker.Paine, who has been facing a race against time to be fit for the first Ashes Test on December 8, was named in a report as being at the centre of the case.He faced media in Hobart on Friday to announce he was resigning but will remain available for selection for the Ashes. The messages date back to 2017, shortly before Paine was recalled to the Test team after a seven-year absence, and a joint Cricket Australia and Cricket Tasmania investigation cleared him at the time.”Today, I’m announcing my decision to stand down as the captain of the Australian men’s test team. It’s an incredibly difficult decision, but the right one for me, my family, and cricket,” Paine said as he read out a statement.”As a background on my decision, nearly four years ago, I was involved in a text exchange with a then-colleague. At the time, the exchange was the subject of a thorough CA Integrity Unit investigation, throughout which I fully participated in and openly participated in.”That investigation and a Cricket Tasmania HR investigation at the same time found that there had been no breach of the Cricket Australia Code of Conduct. Although exonerated, I deeply regretted this incident at the time, and still do today. I spoke to my wife and family at the time and am enormously grateful for their forgiveness and support. We thought this incident was behind us and that I could focus entirely on the team, as I have done for the last three or four years.”However, I recently became aware that this private text exchange was going to become public. On reflection, my actions in 2017 do not meet the standard of an Australian cricket captain, or the wider community. I’m deeply sorry for the hurt and pain that I have caused to my wife, my family, and to the other party. I’m sorry for any damage that this does to the reputation of our sport. He added that he felt resignation was his only option and apologised to team-mates and supporters.”I believe that it is the right decision for me to stand down as captain, effective immediately,” he said. I do not want this to become an unwelcome disruption to the team ahead of what is a huge Ashes series.””It’s been the greatest privilege of my sporting life to lead the Australian men’s test team. I’m grateful for the support of my team-mates and proud of what we’ve been able to achieve together.”To them, I ask for their understanding and forgiveness. To Australian cricket fans I’m deeply sorry that my past behaviour has impacted our game on the eve of the Ashes. For the disappointment I have caused to fans and the entire cricket community, I apologise.”I’ve been blessed with a wonderful, loving and supportive family, and it breaks my heart to know how much I’ve let them down. They have always stood by me, been my most loyal fans, and I’m indebted to them for their support.”I will remain a committed member of the Australian cricket team and look forward with anticipation to what is a huge Ashes tour.”A subsequent statement by Cricket Tasmania said the allegations had only been brought to their attention when theft charges were laid against the employee in mid-2018 and that no complaint had been made at the time of the messages in November 2017.”As soon as Cricket Tasmania was made aware, it undertook an investigation that determined the interaction was consensual, private, occurred on the one occasion only, was between mature adults and was not repeated,” Cricket Tasmania chairman Andrew Gaggin said.”Cricket Tasmania clearly does not condone this type of behaviour and addressed the matter directly with Tim Paine. However, because of the consensual nature of the actions it was determined that no further action was required or appropriate.”Paine was elevated to the captaincy in March 2018 following the explosive fallout from the ball-tampering scandal in South Africa. Fast bowler Pat Cummins is Australia’s current vice-captain and had been tipped to assume the role once Paine retired. If Paine was not to play the series, Alex Carey would be the frontrunner to take the gloves. The board accepted Paine’s resignation and has said that process of identifying and appointing a new Test captain will be accelerated.”Tim felt it was in the best interests of his family and Australian cricket to take this decision to step down as captain,” CA chair Richard Freudenstein said. “The Board has accepted Tim’s resignation and will now work through a process with the National Selection Panel of identifying and appointing a new captain.”While the Board acknowledges an investigation cleared Tim of any breach of the code of conduct regarding this matter some years ago, we respect his decision. CA does not condone this type of language or behaviour. Despite the mistake he made, Tim has been an exceptional leader since his appointment and the Board thanks him for his distinguished service.”Tim will continue to be available for selection in the Test team through the Ashes summer.”

Everton scouts absolutely love the look of big-money 19 year-old wonderkid

A 19-year-old wonderkid with a big future in the game has reportedly caught the eye of scouts at Everton, having excelled recently against La Liga’s big boys.

Latest Everton news

The pressure is back on Sean Dyche after a bitterly disappointing result in the Premier League over the weekend, as the Blues lost 1-0 away to fellow strugglers Southampton. Beto thought he had equalised in stoppage time, only to see the goal chalked off by VAR.

While Dyche has seen a clear improvement in recent weeks, both in terms of results and performances, there is still an element of unrest among the fanbase, as Everton fail to fully pull themselves clear of the relegation zone, sitting 16th in the table and only four points above the drop zone.

In terms of possible transfer incomings in the near future, Sunderland teenager Chris Rigg has been linked with a move to Goodison Park, in what would be a stunning coup by the Blues. The 17-year-old is one of the most exciting young players in the country right now, helping the Black Cats to the top of the Championship and shining with his maturity and class in midfield.

Another young player who has emerged as a reported target for Everton is West Brom ace Tom Fellows, who is believed to be wanted by a host of Premier League sides. He already has five assists in just 10 league games for the Baggies in 2024/25, proving to be a creative force for the promotion hopefuls.

Everton scouts love La Liga wonderkid

According to a fresh update from Caught Offside, Everton scouts have been left “hugely impressed” by Sevilla teenager Stanis Idumbo, especially following a strong performance against Barcelona in La Liga last month, in which he scored in a 5-1 defeat.

The Blues’ interest in the 19-year-old is described as “strong”, with fellow Premier League side Aston Villa and Brighton also in the same boat. It is stated that “it could take big money” for them to prise him away, however, given how highly he is thought of.

Not a huge amount will be known about Idumbo, especially as he has only recently broken into Sevilla’s senior setup, but he has been looked at as a hugely exciting young product for some time now.

The young Belgian attacking midfielder spent three years in the youth fold at Ajax, prior to sealing a move to Spain earlier this year, and he has also been capped by his country across five different age groups.

Idumbo would clearly be looked at as one for the future for Everton, rather than an experienced figure who would be coming straight in to improve Dyche’s starting lineup, but acquiring exciting young talent is paramount for the Blues, as they look to ensure that a bright period is on the horizon, following plenty of struggles in the Premier League in recent years.
