“To be honest, I was just getting Bumrah-ed,” Khawaja told ABC Sport after Australia regained the BGT in Sydney. “It was friggin’ tough work. It was tough work. People were asking me ‘what’s going on?’ I’m being honest, I’m just getting Bumrah-ed.”Bumrah finished the series as the highest wicket-taker, with 32 scalps at an average of 13.06 and was duly named Player of the Series.He could bowl only nine innings though, and he couldn’t take the field during Australia’s chase at the SCG after experiencing back spasms during their first innings.In Bumrah’s absence, Australia sealed the win with six wickets to spare, and Khawaja admitted that Australia felt more confident on a spicy pitch when they saw that Bumrah wasn’t on the field.”You never want to see anyone injured and it’s a shame he was, but thank God for us. But he’s been something different this year,” Khawaja said. “It looked like he’s just got his tail up.”The wickets have definitely helped him, but he’s six years more mature, he’s a better bowler, he understands his skills. He understands who he’s bowling to and he has different plans for everyone.”I always feel like no matter how good a bowler is, they’ll always give me something to score off. I just never felt like I could score off him. It just felt so hard. I’ve never found someone so hard to score off and get off strike as Bumrah and you always feel like he’s got a wicket ball up his sleeve.”

Tottenham manager Thomas Frank unceremoniously missed out on his second playmaker of the summer on Wednesday evening, so he is in dire need of some good news when it comes to recruitment.

Despite Spurs’ very advanced talks for Eberechi Eze, Arsenal swooped in to hijack Daniel Levy’s negotiations after Kai Havertz’s injury, and they swiftly shook hands on a deal with Palace overnight.

Tottenham were believed to have a verbal pact in place with Palace and agreed personal terms with Eze, so it looked like a matter of time before the north Londoners welcomed him to N17.

However, the decision ultimately came down to Eze, as both Spurs and Arsenal were prepared to meet Palace’s demands at club level.

The England international chose Arsenal due to his long-standing connection with them through his boyhood academy years at the club (Alasdair Gold), with Frank and Levy now back to square one in their pursuit of a number 10.

They’ve been in this position before this summer, with Morgan Gibbs-White also failing to seal what was once a very advanced move to Tottenham after Nottingham Forest blocked the deal.

With Spurs’ mission to sign a James Maddison replacement now set to continue with just 12 days to go until the transfer deadline on September 1, the Lilywhites also have other positions they need to reinforce.

Frank believes that Tottenham actually need two number 10s after Maddison’s long-term injury, but whether the Dane gets his wish is another matter.

Elsewhere, it is reliably reported that Spurs also want to sign a new winger and centre-back (Michael Bridge).

Brentford captain Nathan Collins and Bayer Leverkusen’s Piero Hincapie are among Tottenham’s defensive targets, while Man City winger Savinho is still being chased by Spurs despite Pep Guardiola’s side blocking the deal as of now (Fabrizio Romano).

Believe it or not, Brentford striker Yoane Wissa may also remain a possibility too.

According to The Mail’s Craig Hope, there is a feeling behind-the-scenes that the Bees are delaying their deal with Newcastle, having just rejected a second bid for the Congolese, because Brentford “want to sell” Wissa to Tottenham instead – due to their relationship with Frank.

The Dane would also be keen on signing his ex-star. However, any move for Wissa is dependent on revitalised centre-forward Richarlison leaving and a club meeting his minimum £50m valuation.

The Brazilian was actually offered as a makeweight in talks for Eze, as per this report, but that now won’t be happening.

Perhaps if they can offer out Richarlison in part-exchange for another playmaker, the door could reopen for Wissa, but for now, the 29-year-old has his “heart set” on a move to St. James’ Park.

He would be an excellent replacement for Richarlison, scoring 19 goals in the Premier League last season and earning plenty of praise from Frank in the past.

According to TEAMtalk’s report, Celtic are confident that they will win the race to seal a deadline day deal for Crystal Palace forward Jesurun Rak-Sakyi.

The outlet claims that the Scottish Premiership giants are in a battle with Rangers and Leicester City to sign the left-footed star on loan for the season.

It adds that Celtic feel they are well-positioned to win the race because of the regular first-team football and European matches that they can offer the 22-year-old starlet, who has been described as “devastating” by U23 scout Antonio Mango.

What Rak-Sakyi would bring to Celtic

The English winger would provide a real goal threat from the right flank to finally replace what they lost when Nicolas Kuhn completed a move to Como earlier this summer.

Celtic have struggled for goals in the early parts of the season and the signings of Dolberg and Rak-Sakyi, if they can get them over the line, would go a long way to solving their issues in that department.

Rak-Sakyi spent last season on loan at Sheffield United in the Championship, and previously impressed on loan at Charlton in League One in England.

As you can see in the table above, the Palace youngster has scored 22 goals in his last 62 league starts in the Championship and League One combined, which shows that he can provide a regular source of goals when picked week-in-week-out.

Dolberg, meanwhile, has scored three goals in six matches this season and plundered 19 goals in 40 games in the 2024/25 campaign for Anderlecht, per Sofascore, as the main number nine for the Belgian side, showing that he is in-form and could hit the ground running in Glasgow.

This means that, in Dolberg and Rak-Sakyi, Celtic appear to be closing in on two new signings who could add a spark to what has been a dull attacking set-up at Parkhead so far this season.

Of course, it is now down to the club to ensure that they can get these deals done before the deadline to avoid missing out on the huge boost to their attack that this duo could provide them with.

She is expected to require between three and six weeks of rehabilitation and has been replaced by Lauren Down. Whilst he looked set to leave at one stage this summer, he could now partner various players who completed big-money moves to Old Trafford during the off-season.

Sesko & Mbeumo’s moves to United this summer

The need for new attackers at United this summer was evident last campaign, after the side netted a measly tally of just 44 goals in their 38 Premier League outings.

Benjamin Sesko has been signed as the club’s new centre-forward, joining in a £73.7m deal from RB Leipzig after scoring 21 times in his 43 appearances throughout 2024/25.

However, he’s yet to find the net for the Red Devils, but the same can’t be said for fellow summer addition Bryan Mbeumo, who’s already wasted no time in having an impact in Amorim’s side.

The Cameroonian, who cost £71m from Brentford, opened his account for his new side last weekend – netting the second goal in the 3-2 triumph over Burnley at Old Trafford.

If the Red Devils are to be a success in the years ahead, the pair will likely play a key role, but such a responsibility could’ve fallen the way of one other attacker had the hierarchy kept hold of him.

The former United star who’s now worth more than Mbeumo & Sesko

Despite Mainoo being a presence in the first-team at the Theatre of Dreams, not every youngster who rises through the ranks is able to become an established member of the squad.

Anthony Elanga may have racked up over 50 appearances for United, but he was sold by Erik ten Hag to Nottingham Forest in the summer of 2023 – for a fee in the region of £15m.

The Swede’s move to the City Ground would take his career to the next level, with the winger subsequently able to thrive with regular minutes in the Premier League.

He made 36 appearances in England’s top-flight throughout 2023/24, notching a total of 14 combined goals and assists – but it was his performances from last season which saw the Swede catch the eye.

Elanga featured in every single league game for Nuno Espírito Santo’s outfit, playing a huge role in the Reds’ ability to claim European football for the first time in a generation.

The 23-year-old scored six times and registered 11 assists, with his tremendous solo effort against United at the City Ground highlighting the talent they let slip through their fingers.

However, he would depart Forest during the recent summer window, but not for a return to Old Trafford – subsequently joining Eddie Howe’s Newcastle United in a package worth up to £60m.

Such a figure is a four times increase on the fee the Red Devils sold him for just two years ago, with the Swede the latest player the hierarchy let leave the club for a bargain fee.

As a result of his transfer, Elanga has seen his market value soar in the last couple of months, leading to FootballTransfers now valuing the attacker at £65.1m.

Based on their respective numbers, it’s clear that the Red Devils would have been better off keeping hold of Elanga and putting faith into a player already on their books.

However, he will now forever remain a case of what could’ve been, with the hierarchy needing to remember such a deal when selling other youngsters in the years ahead.
