It's not Kudus: Frank already has his own Saka in "phenomenal" Spurs star

Tottenham Hotspur have been lucky enough to have numerous top-level attacking talents on their hands over the last couple of years – often handing the supporters moments to cherish forever.

Heung-min Son is just one player who falls into such a category, with the South Korean forward a talent who often managed to produce the goods within the final third.

The winger scored a total of 173 goals for the Lilywhites, a tally which puts him fourth in the club’s record books, with an impressive chunk coming against local rivals, Arsenal.

Tottenham Hotspur'sSonHeung-minreacts

He scored nine times in his 22 appearances against the Gunners, the third most of any side he’s faced in his career – further highlighting his impact in the North London Derby.

However, despite his impact for Spurs, he was unable to better one player who has often proved to be a thorn in the side of the club in the meetings against them.

Bukayo Saka’s form against Spurs

After his breakthrough in 2020, Arsenal star Bukayo Saka has featured against Spurs on ten separate occasions, subsequently being on the winning side in 60% of the outings.

The Englishman has scored five times against the Lilywhites, averaging a goal every other game and often popping up and finding the net in key moments of derby encounters.

He may not have scored in any of the clashes last season, but he did register the assist for Gabriel’s second-half winner, with Mikel Arteta’s side once again claiming bragging rights.

Saka has now registered 25 or more combined goals and assists in each of his last three seasons, further highlighting the top-level talent he possesses, all despite being just 24 years of age.

Given the levels he’s produced, there’s no denying the Lilywhites faithful must wish they had a player of his calibre, but it’s safe to say stars such as the winger would now cost a pretty penny.

However, boss Thomas Frank shouldn’t worry, with the Dane already having his very own version of the Englishman within his ranks at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

The Spurs star who’s Frank’s own Saka

Spurs’ 2024/25 campaign was a topsy-turvy one to say the least, with huge highs being achieved all whilst failing to deliver in other competitions under Ange Postecoglou.

TottenhamHotspur managerAngePostecoglu applauds fans after the match

The Aussie ended their 17-year wait for a trophy with their Europa League triumph, but ultimately, it glossed over the cracks that appeared in the Premier League.

He could only achieve a 17th-placed finish in England’s top-flight, subsequently suffering 22 defeats in the process – something which would cost him his job in North London.

Frank was appointed as the manager to pick up the pieces, a task he’s seamlessly taken to immediately, as seen by his tally of just one loss in his opening nine competitive outings.

While he’s added the likes of Mohammed Kudus and Xavi Simons to his ranks this summer, he already had his answer to Saka within his ranks in North London.

Dejan Kulusevski is a player who’s yet to feature under the Dane due to injury, but there’s no denying that the attacker will have a huge role to play upon his return in the months ahead.

The Swede, who has been dubbed “phenomenal” by one creator, is currently sidelined with a knee injury, but did manage to star on a consistent basis in 2024/25 before he went under the knife to fix the recurring issue.

He registered 10 goals and 11 assists across all competitions last campaign, ending the year as one of the Lilywhites’ most creative outlets within attacking areas.

Such is the level of his performances last year, he was dubbed as a similar player to Saka by FBref, further highlighting how impressive he was under Postecoglou.

When comparing their respective figures, Kulusevski managed to outperform the Arsenal star in various key areas, showcasing the huge amount of quality he possesses.

The table highlights the depth of areas he managed to outclass Saka, with his return to fitness undoubtedly a huge boost to Frank and the Spurs fanbase.

It’s unclear what level of fitness he will possess after such a long injury layoff, but when he gets fully firing, the Swede will add another dimension to the club’s potent frontline.

If he can replicate or better his numbers from last year, there’s no reason as to why the forward can’t help Frank make his first season in North London one to remember.

Man Utd submit £26m offer for former Premier League striker

Manchester United have now submitted a £26m opening offer for a former Premier League striker, who has been in impressive form this season.

Man Utd looking to sign new striker amid Sesko's slow start

Benjamin Sesko’s Man United career is yet to truly take off, having scored two goals in his first 11 Premier League games, and the Slovenian striker has missed the last two matches due to a knee injury, with Joshua Zirkzee leading the line against Crystal Palace last time out.

With Zirkzee ending his goal drought in the 2-1 triumph against the Eagles, it remains to be seen whether Sesko will be able to force his way back into the side upon his return, but the Dutchman could be on the move in the January transfer window.

West Ham United are now planning to sign Zirkzee this winter as a replacement for Niclas Fullkrug, with AS Roma also being credited as potential suitors, and the 24-year-old departing would exacerbate the need for Ruben Amorim to bring in a new centre-forward.

According to a report from Spain, Man United have now submitted an offer of around €30m (£26m) for Real Betis striker Cucho Hernandez, who has emerged as an important player for the Spanish side under the helm of Manuel Pellegrini.

The bid is said to be ‘financially attractive’ to Betis, but the La Liga side now have a big decision to make, given that Cucho could be the key to them having a successful season, and it would be difficult to replace him.

United are looking to bring in forwards capable of providing ‘energy, mobility and goals’, and they have decided the 26-year-old fits the bill, off the back of an impressive 2025-26 campaign thus far…

Cucho impressing in La Liga and Europa League

The Colombian recently scored his first Europa League goal of the season in Betis’ 2-1 victory against Utrecht, and he has also put in some eye-catching displays in La Liga, chipping in with five goals and two assists in 14 games.

The former Watford man has some Premier League experience too, scoring five goals in 25 matches for the Hornets in the 2021-22 campaign, during which time Claudio Ranieri said: “I love him, because always during the training session he gives 100 per cent. He wants to score, he wants to shoot. He is a fighter. I love these kinds of people.”

Man United should have reservations about signing Cucho, given that the centre-forward wasn’t exactly prolific during his previous stint in England, but he could be a decent back-up option for Sesko, should Zirkzee move on this winter.

Perfect for Anderson: Nottingham Forest make £21m PL star their top target

After the 3-0 triumph over Liverpool at Anfield last weekend, the feel-good factor is well and truly back at Nottingham Forest under the keen eye of Sean Dyche.

The hometown hero has installed a reason to be proud of the first-team squad once again after Ange Postecoglou’s failed attempts to make the Reds a force to be reckoned with.

Back-to-back victories have teed the side up perfectly for the latest Europa League clash with Malmö, which is no doubt going to be a meeting for the ages.

However, the bigger picture will certainly be coming into view over the next few weeks, with the transfer window creeping on the horizon and opening in a little over a month’s time.

Numerous players have already been touted with a winter move to the City Ground, with Evangelos Marinakis looking set to get his chequebook out once again after the summer spending spree.

Nottingham Forest’s hunt for January additions

Over the last couple of weeks, Forest have been touted with a surprise reunion with James Garner, after the midfielder spent two years on loan with the Reds in the Championship.

He’s since moved to Everton, plying his trade under Dyche, which no doubt will have pushed the rumours over a potential switch back to the East Midlands this winter.

The 24-year-old has played every minute in England’s top-flight to date, with the Toffees unlikely to sanction his departure away from Merseyside this window.

However, he’s not the only Englishman in the hierarchy’s sights at present, with Brighton star Jack Hinshelwood another player being targeted by Dyche and Co.

According to the Daily Mail, Forest have made the 20-year-old their top target for January, after only featuring in four Premier League games for the Seagulls in 2025/26.

The report also states that the youngster, who’s an England U21 international, is happy at the AMEX at present, whilst also failing to mention the rumoured fee it would take to prise him away from Fabian Hurzeler’s squad, although Transfermarkt value him at around £21m.

Why Hinshelwood would be perfect alongside Anderson

Back in the summer of 2024, many Forest fans would have been unaware of the talent of Elliot Anderson, but it’s safe to say his success is recognised more than just at the City Ground in the present day.

The 23-year-old arrived in a PSR deal from Newcastle United, which saw goalkeeper Odysseas Vlachodimos moving in the opposite direction – with the Reds paying a net £15m for his signature.

18 months on, such a deal could be one of the best in the club’s history, with the midfielder now a full England international and currently being valued at the £100m mark.

He’s featured in every minute of the Premier League campaign to date, subsequently ranking at the top of countless stats compared to other midfielders in the division.

Anderson has been partnered by various players at the heart of the side, but he may have the perfect partner should the hierarchy complete a deal for Hinshelwood in the coming months.

The 20-year-old’s stats from the ongoing campaign highlight the talent he possesses, with such a deal potentially being yet another excellent piece of business.

Hinshelwood, who’s been dubbed a “superstar” by content creator Ryan Adsett, has made 2.8 tackles per 90 and won 64% of the duels he’s entered – arguably being an excellent ball-winning option.

Such numbers would be perfect for Anderson, which could allow him to be freed up and continue his vein of completing the most passes into the final third per 90 of any player in the Premier League this season.

As for the Seagulls star, he’s also made a staggering 5.6 recoveries per 90 along with 1.7 aerial duels won – further showcasing his incredible ability without the ball.

However, the 20-year-old has also showcased his ability to pop up with a goal at key moments, with the youngster finding the winner in the clash against Brentford last weekend.

As previously mentioned, it’s unclear whether a deal for the Englishman could be agreed, but it would be a move that would add serious defensive quality to the current midfield.

The prospect of Hinshelwood starring alongside Anderson is certainly one for the fans to get excited about, which could see the club be the home to two of the country’s brightest talents.

Paul Goldschmidt Immediately Shuts Down Injury Concern After Leaving Game

New York Yankees first baseman Paul Goldschmidt left Monday's New York Yankees Spring Training game vs. the Toronto Blue Jays early because of a sore back he's been dealing with for a few days.

Goldschmidt left the game after the third inning, which caused concern. However, Goldschmidt reassured everyone after his exit that he left the game early for precautionary reasons. He "didn't want to push it," so he didn't finish the game, MLB's Bryan Hoch reported.

The first baseman also noted there is "zero" concern that he will play on Opening Day next Thursday vs. the Milwaukee Brewers at home.

Goldschmidt will be entering his first official season as a Yankee after he signed with the team in free agency following six seasons with the St. Louis Cardinals.

So far through Spring Training, Goldschmidt's averaged .313/.389/1.077. He's had 10 hits, seven runs, three home runs and 10 RBIs.

Mohammed Amir, Imad Wasim signed as Hundred replacements

Mohammad Amir and Imad Wasim have signed contracts with Northern Superchargers, assuaging concerns that Pakistani players would be locked out of the Hundred under new Indian owners. The ECB insisted earlier this year that the identity of new investors – four out of eight are based in India, and a further two are Indian-American – would have no effect on the involvement of Pakistani players in the Hundred. “We’re aware of that in other regions,” Richard Gould, the ECB’s chief executive, said in February, “but that won’t be happening here.”Eyebrows were raised when no men’s players were signed at March’s draft, in contrast to previous seasons. But the snub could also be explained by the unavailability of Pakistan’s white-ball squads (due to a tour of West Indies and a tri-series in the UAE), their recent struggles in T20Is, and the late pullouts of Shaheen Shah Afridi and Naseem Shah last year.Related

Then, on Monday, Amir and Imad became the first two Pakistan players to sign deals for the 2025 season, as late replacements at the Superchargers for Ben Dwarshuis (full season) and Mitchell Santner (two games) due to international duty. The Superchargers’ incoming owners are Indian media tycoons the Sun Group, who will assume operational control on October 1.Amir and Imad will link up with Ben Stokes in the Hundred, who revealed on Monday that he will play an informal, mentoring role at the Superchargers as he starts his rehabilitation from the shoulder injury that ruled him out of England’s fifth Test with India. Stokes opted out of the Hundred earlier this year, but will support Andrew Flintoff and Harry Brook.”You will see me knocking about the Hundred, not in a playing way,” Stokes said. “I had to make a decision in January if I would participate in the comp, but that was after my hamstring surgery. I said I’d still like to be a part of it, so I will be milling about. I won’t have a notebook and pen. I said I would come and give my time to the team. I will be cracking on with my rehab.”Most of England’s Test batters will be available throughout the Hundred, though most of their fast bowlers will be resting. London Spirit have roped in John Simpson as their wicketkeeping to face Oval Invincibles in Tuesday’s curtain-raiser, with Ollie Pope and Jamie Smith both rested, while Glamorgan allrounder Dan Douthwaite has also signed a short-term deal.Mark Chapman and Farhan Ahmed have replaced Rachin Ravindra (international duty, four games) and Marchant de Lange (injury, full tournament) at Manchester Originals, while West Indies allrounder Akeal Hosein will deputise for South Africa’s George Linde at Trent Rockets for two matches.

The Hundred replacements:

London Spirit: John Simpson and Dan Douthwaite to replace Jamie Smith and Ollie Pope for August 5
Manchester Originals: Mark Chapman to replace Rachin Ravindra (August 6-13), Farhan Ahmed to replace Marchant de Lange; Amuruthaa Surenkumar to replace Ella McCaughan
Northern Superchargers: Imad Wasim to replace Mitchell Santner (August 7-10); Mohammad Amir to replace Ben Dwarshuis
Trent Rockets: Akeal Hosein to replace George Linde (August 10-14)

Eddie Howe praises "amazing transfer" by Newcastle for £17m less than value

Eddie Howe believes Dan Burn was probably worth £30m rather than the £13m Newcastle paid for him when they brought him home from Brighton.

Burn was one of Howe’s first signings in January 2022 as the club’s new owners flexed their financial muscle for the first time and he has since become a key member of the team which won the Carabao Cup last season and is playing Champions League football for the second time in three years.

Howe hails Burn and says Newcastle got him on the cheap

Asked if the versatile England defender has proved to be worth every penny of his £13million fee ahead of Saturday’s trip to his former club, head coach Howe said after a pause:

Burn reported back from England duty dreaming of a trip to next summer’s World Cup but facing a gruelling schedule for his club, who have seven games in the space of 23 days before the next international break, starting with the trip to Brighton.

Howe shares Newcastle injury updates on star players

Howe, who welcomed the appointment of Ross Wilson as the club’s new sporting director, could have Jacob Ramsey back following his recovery from an ankle injury, while fellow midfielder Joelinton is expected to be fit after returning from his exertions with Brazil nursing a minor groin problem.

However, full-backs Tino Livramento and Lewis Hall and striker Yoane Wissa, who continues to work his way back from posterior cruciate ligament damage, are still out.

Joe Willock will be in the squad after finding himself at the centre of a viral social media hoax in which it was claimed he had to be rescued after getting lost in York Maze for six hours.

Asked if he had spoken to the midfielder about the story, Howe said with a smile: “Yes, I did discuss it with him – just to check whether it was true or not, probably like everybody else. Thankfully it wasn’t.

“Joe’s fine, he’s good. He’s got the ability to laugh with it rather than be concerned by it.”

Major League Baseball 2024: Yankees Have Best Odds to Win the AL East

The New York Yankees are the current favorites to win the AL East at +165. Every team returns plus money if they win the division, and loyal Boston Red Sox fans have the potential for a 13-to-1 payout.

New York Yankees +165
Baltimore Orioles +205
Toronto Blue Jays +400
Tampa Bay Rays +650
Boston Red Sox +1300

After signing outfielder Juan Soto in the offseason, and with early reports that starting pitcher Carlos Rodon may be back in form, the Yankees are currently the betting favorites, despite the fact they finished in fourth place with just 82 wins and were one of only two teams in the division not to make the postseason in 2023.

Aaron Judge missed 56 games last season, one of the key reasons New York finished in fourth place :: Jay Biggerstaff/USA TODAY Sports

Ace Gerritt Cole will anchor their pitching staff and their bullpen, which was the best in MLB for 2023, should remain elite. However, even with the addition of Soto, the Yankees will need an entire season of a healthy Aaron Judge to set the pace in this tight division.

The Yankees have won 20 division titles since the beginning of the divisional era in 1969.

Last year’s AL East champions, the Orioles, have the second-best odds at +205. Baltimore won 101 games on their way to the division title in 2023. That was the second-most wins in MLB, behind the Atlanta Braves (104). With much of the young core returning and the addition of 2021 NY Cy Young winner Corbin Burnes in the offseason, the Orioles look like good value. In addition, ownership changes and the possibility of the addition of 2023 NL Cy Young winner Blake Snell, all signal that the Orioles can repeat.

Next up are the Blue Jays at +400. Toronto has made the postseason as a wild card the last two seasons and three of the last four, but has not won the AL East division since 2015. I am willing to bet on the Jays making the playoffs again, but I won’t tie up any bankroll for them to win the division. Brimming with talent — including the 2023 Home Run Derby winner, Vladimir Guerrero Jr., the Jays haven’t played consistently up to their potential in recent seasons.

The Rays at +650 represent the best value of the group. Tampa Bay finished in second place in the AL East in 2023 and has won the division in two of the last four seasons. The Rays always find ways to succeed no matter the players, and they do it with one of the lowest payrolls in MLB. I’m willing to bet on some smart Kevin Cash moneyball at +650. According to FanGraphs, the Rays are projected to win 86 games this season. That’s the fifth-highest projected win total in MLB and just three fewer than the Yankees.

Finally, for die-hard Red Sox fans, why not sprinkle a little on Boston to surprise? In a long 162-game season, the 13-to-1 payout is worth a lotto ticket.

Aston Villa sold "one of the best young players", now he's emulating Sancho

It was a hectic transfer deadline day for Aston Villa. Up until Monday, it has been a quiet summer at Villa Park in terms of incomings, but there was a flurry of late activity, which somewhat redeemed what the club had done in the 2025 summer window.

In total, Emery’s side made three last-minute signings, with one of those on a free transfer. Centre-back Victor Lindelof made the move to the West Midlands after his contract at Manchester United expired at the end of last season.

Versatile attacker Harvey Elliott left Liverpool for the Villans on a loan deal with an obligation to buy him imcluded for a fee of £35m.

The other signing made by Unai Emery’s side saw them sign another attacking player, Jadon Sancho.

What Villa can expect from Sancho

Villa’s new number 19 this season will be Sancho. The English winger will also join on a loan deal from Manchester United, although there is no buy clause in the move, with his contract at Old Trafford set to expire at the end of next season.

Once one of the most exciting wonderkids in world football, Sancho’s career somewhat stagnated at Old Trafford after a fallout with former manager Erik ten Hag. He has played for Borussia Dortmund over two spells and spent last season on loan at Chelsea.

The 25-year-old honed his craft in the Bundesliga, and Jamie Carragher said he was “one of the best young players at the moment in world football” at that time. His best season in that famous yellow shirt came in 2019/20, when he scored 17 goals and assisted the same number in just 32 Bundesliga games. He was scintillating for Dortmund.

Of course, the last few seasons have not been as prolific, but 15 goal involvements for Chelsea in 2024/25, including one in the Conference League final, were impressive.

There is no doubt that Emery would love to help guide the winger back to his very best at Villa Park.

Sancho set a trend in many ways by getting his footballing education abroad. We have since seen other young English stars follow in his footsteps, with Jude Bellingham perhaps the best example.

In fact, there is a former Villa player who is now emulating Sancho.

Carney Chukwuemeka is now emulating Sancho

Sancho certainly set a trend by moving to Germany at just 17 years of age, and Dortmund have become a club known for producing some of the best young talents. Well, one of their latest signings in that mould will be familiar to Villa fans.

21-year-old Carney Chukwuemeka was once regarded as “one of the best young players in England”, according to Sky Sports reporter Kaveh Solhekol.

A Villans academy graduate, he made 16 appearances for the club, registering one assist for Ollie Watkins against Norwich City.

Villa didn’t get to see much of their talent before he moved away from the club.

Chukwuemeka joined Chelsea for £20m in 2022, which, in itself, is similar to Sancho, given the Englishman previously played for the Blues on loan.

After limited opportunities at Chelsea, the former Villans star switched to Dortmund on loan last winter and then on a permanent move over the summer. So far, he’s made 18 appearances across the two spells, scoring one goal.

Dortmund certainly platform young players well, because Chukwuemeka has thrived at the club, just as Sancho did during his two successful stints. The stats from his loan last season are a perfect example, with the Austrian-born midfielder boasting an average expected goal involvement tally of 0.8xGI per 90 minutes.

It might well sting Villa fans that they let a talent as good as Chukwuemeka slip through the net. With his limited opportunities at Stamford Bridge, he may have had a better chance at regular first-team football had he stayed in the West Midlands.

Despite that, he is now emulating Sancho’s career path, thriving at Dortmund just as the England international did. If their careers continue to mirror, perhaps he’ll be back at Villa Park before too long.

Aston Villa have certainly hit gold on this unbelievable star, who is worth more than both new recruits Harvey Elliott and Jadon Sancho.

Rodri dealt another injury blow: Man City midfielder subbed after 20 minutes as Spain international continues to battle recurring knee problem

Manchester City have seen Rodri suffer another injury setback, with the Ballon d’Or-winning midfielder forced off after just 20 minutes of their Premier League clash with Brentford. The Spain international was able to walk from the field, but was clearly in some discomfort and could be facing up to another spell on the sidelines after struggling to recover form and fitness on the back of a devastating ACL injury.

  • How long will Rodri be sidelined for?

Rodri suffered knee ligament damage back in September 2024. He missed all but seven minutes of that campaign after being forced to take a long road to recovery. The 29-year-old returned to action in May 2025 before featuring for City at the 2025 FIFA Club World Cup. The hope was that he was over any fitness issues, but that is clearly not the case.

Pep Guardiola is seeing an important member of his star-studded squad head back to the treatment table. It remains to be seen how long Rodri will be sidelined for, with another international break being reached that will allow those nursing knocks to take in a much-needed rest.

    Another untimely setback for Rodri

There were less than 20 minutes on the clock at the Gtech Community Stadium when Rodri was forced to bring his latest appearance to a close. City put the ball out of play, allowing the Spaniard to take a seat on the turf. He appeared to be close to tears as the realisation that another setback has been endured set in.

Rodri sat shaking his head while waiting for City’s medical team to come to his aid. It was quickly determined that nothing could be done for him on the field. With that in mind, he was escorted towards the touchline. There was no need for a stretcher, as Nico Gonzalez took his place, but Rodri was limping and headed straight down the tunnel.

  • Knee problems becoming an unfortunate theme

Rodri has figured in five Premier League fixtures for City this season, while also gracing a couple of Champions League matches and two international dates with Spain. He has completed the full 90 minutes just twice, with his game time still being carefully managed.

His involvement at Brentford was not considered to be a risk, but Rodri’s body has broken down on him again. He missed 53 games for City across 236 days after damaging knee ligaments. A further setback in early August kept him out of two matches. An unfortunate theme looks to have continued, with Rodri holding his leg after being forced off against Brentford.

Reaction to return from ACL injury

Rodri said after making his long-awaited return to action after ACL trouble: “The reception from the fans that night, for me, was incredible. They were desperate for me to come back in the same way I was desperate to come back, and this love they showed me – and not just for me, for my girlfriend and for my family – for all of us – makes me so proud.

“They could easily have not done that because the season was going wrong, but they were just happy for me to come back as an individual to come back and try to help the team. Everyone plays a part in being a successful club – the fans, us, all the players – and they know they have to be there in the bad moments and for me there has been no exceptions to this, because they’ve always been there and that for me means an awful lot to me.”
